Br�ve Description du Business / Organisation :

The European Union Delegation to Rwanda, located in Kigali�s district of Kacyiru, is one of the 136 delegations that the European Union has set up over the world. They have a similar function to that of an embassy and they are managed by the European External Action Service.

The EU is a key player in international trade and politics, and is the biggest aid donor to Africa. On this website you will find several links that will provide you with a comprehensive overview of European Union structures and policies, as well as the services of the European Commission in addition to other institutions of the European Union.

EU cooperation with Rwanda is governed by the Cotonou Agreement, which was signed between the EU and the 77 African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries in 2000 in Cotonou, Benin. The Agreement, which will be in force for 20 years, is based on a common objective of reducing poverty that is consistent with the goals of achieving sustainable development and the gradual integration of the ACP countries into the world economy.
Produits & Services :

The bilateral cooperation programme between the Government of Rwanda and the European Union is based on the Country Strategy Paper for Rwanda (2008-2013). The programme concentrates on the following main areas of cooperation: general budget support linked to macroeconomic performance, public financial management and progress in social sectors (health, education); support for rural development; support of infrastructure for regional interconnectivity; capacity building and institutional development so as to increase absorptive capacity; decentralisation and rural development activities at the district level; national reconciliation and justice. Good governance, gender balance, and the environment will be cross-cutting issues across the whole of the programme.

The EU, meaning the European Commission and the Member States of the Union, is the major aid contributor to Rwanda. 6 of the 27 EU Member States are represented in Kigali: Belgium, France Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Their contact details are available on this site.

Here in Kigali, our Delegation consists of 40 staff, both European and Rwandan. Our job is to manage political, economic and development cooperation between the European Union and Rwanda. Our goal is to introduce Rwanda to the EU and the EU to Rwanda.
